What Happens During a Wellness Exam?

A wellness exam is far more than a simple check-up. It’s a comprehensive health assessment that allows Dr. Atkinson to create a personalized care plan for your pet. During each exam, we will:

  • Perform a Nose-to-Tail Physical Exam: We’ll carefully check your pet’s weight, temperature, heart rate, and respiration. We’ll also examine their eyes, ears, teeth, skin, coat, and joints for any signs of disease or discomfort.
  • Discuss Your Pet’s Lifestyle: We’ll ask about your pet’s daily routines, diet, and activity level. This helps us tailor recommendations for nutrition, exercise, and preventative care.
  • Assess Vaccine Needs: We’ll review your pet’s vaccination history and discuss which core and non-core vaccines are essential to protect them from infectious diseases based on their risk factors.
  • Discuss Parasite Prevention: We’ll recommend a year-round plan to protect your pet from common and dangerous parasites, including heartworms, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites. This is especially important in the warm climate of Cloud, Florida.

Regular wellness exams help us establish a baseline for your pet’s health, making it easier to notice subtle changes over time. This can lead to early detection of conditions like arthritis, dental disease, or even early-stage organ issues, which can be managed more effectively and affordably.
